Rutgers true freshman quarterback Gary Nova continued to progress as a collegiate starter against Navy. The former Don Bosco prep star had some troubles with 2 interceptions; one of which was run back for a touchdown, and two other passes that were deflected to his receivers. However overall Nova had a solid day for the Scarlet Knights, finishing 23/31 (74%) for 271 yards, 2 TDs, and 2 INTs. At no point did Nova lose his poise, and showed great pocket presence as he kept his eyes downfield for receivers. Nova hit 8 different receivers against Navy, showing he’s able to go through his progressions well. The sky is the limit for this young man.
Rutgers brought out new uniforms for their game against conference rival Pitt, and the defense lived up to the intimidating look! Rutgers improved to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in Big East conference play with a 34-10 domination of Pitt.
True freshman Gary Nova started at quarterback for Rutgers against Pitt this weekend. The former Don Bosco Prep star didn’t have an overwhelmingly good day, but was turnover free and threw 2 TD passes in the 3rd quarter helping Rutgers to a 34-10 victory over Pitt. Rutgers is now 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the Big East. Nova will also get the start in Rutgers’ next game against Navy.
Redshirt Sophomore cornerback Logan Ryan takes an interception back 45 yards for a score against Pitt. Ryan is blossoming into a true shutdown corner; this was his second interception of the day and he had an impressive pass break up as well.
"Jersey" Joe Martinek streaks down the sideline on his way to a 60 yard touchdown on a screen pass. Martinek is a tremendous weapon at fullback, and we’re just scratching the surface of how he’s going to be used.
Rutgers University wide receiver Mohamed Sanu was named Big East Player of the Week after his 16 catch, 176 yard, 2 touchdown performance against the University of Ohio. His performance led the radio announcers to refer to 3rd down and distances as “It’s 3rd and Sanu”. Congratulations Mo!
